#4......Extra Baggage

This weekend has brought to light a few.....shall we say....issues that I have.

Friday night, I fed my family pizza. I really, in all seriousness, do not think that pizza is that unhealthy- in moderation. After my 3rd cheesy bread stick & 4th piece of pizza, (all of which were dunked in creamy ranch dressing), it was obvious I don't think too much about moderation.

I exercised last week for the first time in many many months..... I was quite proud of myself. I was even a little sweaty, the heart was thumping and my legs felt like jello. Too bad this all occurred after 10 minutes of jumping on my kids' mini trampoline.... and that was the entire workout session. (Shout-out to mini trampolines- I really do know several women who have lost A LOT of weight doing this. I think you have to jump for more than 10 minutes though.)

I bought 2 lbs. of candy from the bulk section at the grocery store Saturday.

I bought 2 dozen rolls, 2 loaves of bread, 12 bagels, cream cheese and marshmallows. Carbohydrates anyone?

I ate 2 lbs. of candy this weekend...... ok, it isn't all gone yet..... but I kid you not, it is getting close. AND, I only have let the kids have 3 pieces each so far.

Our Sunday tradition is to have Cinnamon or orange rolls. Not for a snack- for a meal.... or two meals.

I could keep going with my terrible habbits, but I wouldn't want to gross you all out.

For those who don't know me, I am lucky enough to have a petite build. I have never been extremely overweight- but I have never been right on target either. I have about 15 to lose. My problem isn't necessarily the weight- but the distribution of the weight. There is some major "baby baggage" to lose. The "muffin top" doesn't stuff into my warm weather shirts. The "junk in my trunk" only gives me 2 pairs of jeans that are wearable.

My girdle is only comfortable for a few hours- seriously- I have a girdle. AND I LOVE IT! Anyone who has had a baby or needs to fit into some cute little dress should get one. It is self esteem in a store wrapped package. I know, I know... you shouldn't think you can buy self esteem... blah blah blah. I LOVE my girdle! I got it just 2 months ago after baby #3 was born. My body decided that pooches are very trendy these days.

Anyways.... CHALLENGE #4

It's all about the extra baggage baby! On yourself and around you.

Lose 1 pound.
(For the skinny mini's out there: gain 1 pound!)

Throw something away.
Clean it out or donate it.

We all have some things we have been holding onto. I still have several old t-shirts from high school. I don't wear them. I just move them around and have them take up precious space in my next-to-no storage home. Why? I wouldn't be that sad if they were lost. I just have a few hoarding behaviors.
A few months ago, I geared myself out to de-clutter. I threw out lots of clothes that aren't in style- I just held onto them in hopes they would fit again & you know.... they might come back in style. I threw out shoes. Really, did I need 5 different pairs of lawn mowing shoes? (Truly, I had 5). And, the old canvas shoes I was keeping for the once-every-5-years rafting trip I go on. Extra bonus- I have a bit of a water phobia- so next time I am invited to go rafting..... darn. I just won't be able to go without my special "rafting shoes."

So, I de-cluttered. It felt amazing! So, this week I am going to try and clean out some more.

Maybe I will get so busy that I won't eat the rest of that candy & then I will lose my 1 pound.

Accept the challenge. This is definitely a prize worthy challenge. Details to come. So, accept & get started!

  1. I'm in! I loved last week's challenge to smell good, by the way. Thanks!

  2. So, I'm pregnant...and so far on target with my weight gain. No problem gaining a pound this week...it's normal! Now for the de-cluttering...I love it! I keep a "good will" box in my home and throw stuff in there whenever I'm cleaning a room or closet. My main challenge is going to actually get this stuff to good will. My box is overflowing and has been sitting by my door for the past month so that I will remember to take it out when I run errands. Yeah, I never remember to grab it! so, here's to going through a few more closets and actually taking the box to good will!

  3. I might be able to lose a pound--maybe, I give no promise.

I love throwing away stuff, I have to sneak it out before anyone else in the family sees though--really living with a bunch of pack rats isn't so much fun.

  4. I accept! I'm actually working on losing weight right now -- I've lost over 30 so far -- but my body is in a semi-plateau stage, so lately the pound-a-week goal of mind isn't budging too well. I'll try to kick it into gear this week!
As for throwing stuff out: that one might be hard. We just moved to a liiiiittle house so EVERYTHING is in storage -- seriously, the only "decoration" we have out is my calendar! -- so that would be a rather difficult and most-likely impossible one for me to get to. However, I WILL be sure to throw out the trash regularly, does that count? ;)

  5. I do have some things that I can de-junk, but my biggest concern is my pack-rat 7 year old daughter. My goal is to de-junk her room while she's at school this week. I promise you she won't even notice, but it will make ME feel SOOOO much better! And I will lose at least 1 pound :)

  6. Oh, and I did awesome last week with the scent challenge, until Saturday. I completely forgot Saturday. But the rest of the week was awesome!

  7. Sooo, you must have been my twin, seriously. I have some high school shirts that I just CAN'T part with (what the heck, that was like 10 years ago!!)and I have about 10 pairs of shoes that are not working for me anymore, several pairs of pants/shirts that fit me 2 babies ago..and won't EVER fit again! But, I will say that I have gotten a surge of inner strength lately and have thrown out 9 1/2 boxes of stuff!! That is right ladies, almost 10 BIG moving boxes of stuff. My husband is more than proud, he is ecstatic to say the least..and I'm not even DONE! (He did promise me a camera if I threw out 8 boxes, but I don't feel content quite yet...so here's to at least 3 more boxes!)

  8. This is a lofty goal for me. My hubby's out of town for the week, and I confess I enjoy a nightly snack when he's gone. Food = Company. Thanks for starting me out right!

And yes, I'd be happy to throw out some junk! (I hear you about the 7 year-olds! They keep EVERYTHING!!)

And yes, I own a "slimmer" too. Love it! What is it about that third baby?!?

  9. I am so in! This challenge is awesome! I know that when I toss out clutter, I FEEL lighter inside, and when I loose those "MOMMY" pounds, I feel awesome too!! This will be a great challenge!
p.s. Way to go on working out..hey 10 minutes is better than no minutes!

  10. I am in!!!! I am still trying to loose that baby fat. I wish it would come off faster than it does. One pound is good, two pounds would be great!!

I have a slimmer as well. The only bad part is when it comes off everything is still there.

  11. I'm in!! I too have plateaued, and still need to loose that last 5 pounds. This will be hard! I'm always eating junk! The throwing away I can do! I love to get rid of stuff. Although I do have a pair of pants from high school that I keep thinking I will fit into them again, but still haven't. Maybe it's time to throw them away.

  12. K so I wore my homecoming '95 t-shirt to bed last night! =) The poundage thing I definitely can do since I am in the process as we speak! As for the de-junking, I kind of did that while in the moving process, and I actually did more last Saturday as well. I had a full trailer of junk I threw out of our garage, etc. But I will look around and get some old clothes (that is my favorite de junking to do, my homecoming t-shirts are almost see through =). Maybe time to invest on some more tshirts to wear to bed!

  13. Well, I am probably not going to lose any weight this week but I will throw something away. I do enjoy dejunking once in a while.

  14. I'm all about this challenge. We are moving next week (yes, you read that right, the movers are coming SIX days after I return from vacation). In those six days we are doing a major purge!

  15. I am in. I love to de-junk and my husband is the biggest pack rat! I REALLY REALLY REALLY need to lose some weight...so maybe if I lose 1 pound it will motivate me for more? What if I don't have a scale? If I exercise every night will that work?

  16. Great Challenge! There is always room to shed extra baggage--and I have both pounds and stuff to shed. Thanks for the motivation!

  21. So, I'm new here. Do I comment after I complete the challenge? I'll let you know when I loose that pound!

I saw a reference to your blog when I was looking for "sharing time" stuff, believe it or not. I've got a real ponytail problem. Every day. Can I put my hair up in a claw/bun?

  24. Last week I smelled like coconuts! Thank you Bath and Body! This week's challenge is in the bag! I got really sick and lost 3 pounds already! Man, illness is the best diet! Let's see, what to throw away . . . I usually get rid of something when I get something new so I'll have to do some digging!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I need to do both of these!! So count me in :)

  26. Yesterday, I saw your challenge and you helped push me into cleaning out my closet. I have been meaning to do this for the past several months. Well, I did it!! I have three garbage bags full of clothes and shoes that I haven't worn in three years. Thanks. I love the more room I have in my closet and drawers!

  27. Alyn-
Most people comment when starting a challenge & at the end of their week with their results. You have to comment accepting & w/results to be in for the drawing.
If you are doing the #1 official Ponytail Challenge too, the idea is to put a little effort into yourself/your hair. So, if you put it up a different way, style it- not just whisk it back. Make yourself feel a little lovely.

  28. I definately accept this challenge! Sometimes all it takes is a challenge to muster up the motivation you've been waiting for...so thanks! I have tons to de-clutter around my house...and maybe not quite a ton of weight to lose...but a good amount, so I'll start with one pound!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm in baby! One pound is a good place to start on the weight loss goals right?

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'm new to this blog...but I'm in!

  31. Count me in! I'm great at de-cluttering.. moving 7 times in 8 years will do that to you!

  32. This has been a challenge of mine for let see....almost 7 years. After every pregnancy I loose of weight then get pregnant again then loose, then pregannt, then loose.(good thing I have only had 3 kids so far)I am in-

  33. Gain a pound!!!!! I have been trying to gain a pound since high school. It just doesn't happen for me. Some may hate to hear that...but I haven't had kids so that is probably why. I am most positive that after I have kids I will be forty pounds heavier and stuck with the weight.

  34. I have really been loving your challenges! Now that spring has hit the northeast, I have been out walking everyday, and find that it helps me stay away from the junk food. I have lost 3 pounds and feel invigorated! I am trying to stay away from the ice cream calling me from the freezer!
I cleaned off the bookshelves and donated kids books that we haven't read in ages to the local school. This was a great challenge for me this week!
