#1...the Ponytail Challenge

Ponytails: Excuses, excuses.
The old standby.
The "I'm running late and don't have time to wash my hair."
The "I'm not going anywhere today, so why bother?"
The "I don't have time to do my hair."
The "My hair looks better up anyways."

Start today. (Whenever today is that you are reading this). No ponytails allowed ......for a week.....straight. You heard me. (Or would it be you read me?) None. Zilch. Zero. You must do your hair everyday for a week! AND it has to be done before noon.

If this challenge confuses you, then this blog is not for you.... unless "letting yourself go" also included a very very short haircut, then you still can be in on the action!

I want you all to know this challenge is going to be very hard for me, if not nearly impossible. However, I, Camille accept the challenge and encourage (make that request...ok beg) for the rest of you to accept too. Leave a comment accepting the challenge and here we go...... a full week of hair do's. Wow. I haven't done that since I was 20. Good luck!

Oh-yeah. No "alligator clips" either. No cheating! If the hair is up and didn't include at least a little effort, it is not a hair do, it is a "I let myself go" do. You all deserve to feel good about yourselves, so do it!

  1. Do you get double points for wearing makeup AND no ponytails??

I suppose today is as good a day as any to start--

Off to take out this ponytail and do something with myself!

Thanks for such a wonderful challenge!

  2. Okay, I am willing, but can I wear a ponytail until 10:00 am. My hair is so long and there are chores that require my hair to be ponytailed. What do you think of that, Rulemaker?

  3. dude---I have to get a hair cut if I accept. If my wholesale order goes through--I'll make myself an appointment.

  4. Agghh! I am joining the challenge! The hard part for me is having the hair done by noon =) I usually take a shower (put it in a ponytail) and then do it later when Ashlynn's taking a nap. Great! But I am up for the challenge and it will probably be a good thing!! If Jay ever comes home for lunch he is probably thinking "what the heck?" No pun intended Camille =)

  6. I'm in except for when I'm gymin'. What about two pony tails. That takes alittle more effort. ;) I really need this I think it will be alot of fun!!!

  7. For me this will be an easy one to start with--since my hair isn't long enough for a ponytail anyways. Can't wait for the next challenge!

  8. My hair really is too short to put in a ponytail, but on REALLY lazy days, I scrunch it while it's wet, so I'll count that as my 'ponytail' and vow not to do it for one week. (gulp)

  9. I'll have to start tomorrow. I'm guilty of wearing one today. :)

  10. Does that mean no ponytails to bed either?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Ok, I'm in! This should be interesting!

  12. Ok everyone- seriously, I am having ponytail withdrawls already! How silly is that. Megan- I think bedtime ponytails are ok- however you could be wild and crazy and maybe do a french braid instead.
So far, everyone has pretty good odds on the drawing. However, I of course hope even more join us, so tell some more friends! Imagine.... we could change the world one ponytail at a time....

  15. Guilty as charged. My husband will be so confused, "Are you going out somewhere?" I got my hair cut all fashiony, you know with layers and such, a while ago and the first comment my sister made was, "Now, don't pull it back all the time." It's so hard.

  16. I'd like to proudly announce that I did get a hair cut today--very randomly. I went shopping for a new dress, but look hideous in every single one, I broke out this week and on top of that have 2 cold sores--I obviously can't do anything about the body I have currently and the cold sores and zits will have to run their course--but the hair HAD to go right at that moment.

  17. I am proud to announce that I am ponytail free for 3 days now...yeah! Might not sound like much, but this is the most days in a row in a L-O-N-G time!

  18. Camille, this is awesome! What a great idea. Yes, I will do it and I'm totally late in the game, but love the idea. I'm starting tomorrow because yes, today I'm wearing a ponytail and it's 3 pm. Hey I put in a headband too :) But tomorrow I will start!

  21. Wow. This was probably just the challenge I needed to start really doing something with my hair...it has been done up in the same type of pony tail (with a slight variation here or there) for months! Yikes! Here's to letting our hair down and feeling beautiful! I will try the challenge--except for when I dance on tuesdays and thursdays. Will that still count?

    ReplyDelete
  22. oh snap! this will be tricky for sure as my hair is at that too long, too fugly point! from the second i wake up until the second I go to bed my hair is ponytailed!

What about buns? do they count?

ok 3 2 1 (long breath) my hair is down! :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. oh i am going to link you on my blog... i hope that is ok!

  24. Okay well I'm only 14 now and I do my hair in ponytails almost EVERY DAY. Partially becuse I don't know what to do with it and because it just takes too much time but I'll try the challenge. My friends will wonder what happened. Now comes the hard part..... figuring what to do with my hair.

  25. hair's not long enough to be in a ponytail. days when i don't even do it is when i get the compliments..hmmm. but I feel better about myself when i put some hairspray in it and actually look at it, so i'll accept that challenge...actually doing my hair for a week straight...here we go!!

  26. Hi, I'm got your blog through Rachel's and can I just say..THIS IS GOING TO BE TOUGH!! My hair is up in a funky bun as we speak and is usually like this on days where I am not going anywhere. Ok, Ok, I can do it..I can do it...(I am moving this weekend, so I'm starting on Monday! ;)
If I can accomplish this, maybe I can lose the extra baby fat too!

    ReplyDelete
  27. A timely challenge. I'm committing to do this!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I found your blog through Rachel's and I was wondering if wearing a ponytail is really "letting yourself go" when I casually mentioned the title of your blog to my husband. He innocently said "Why Ponytail Challenge? Because wearing a ponytail means you're a slacker?" Got my answer. I managed to wear my hair ponytail-less yesterday, except when I went to work out. Count me in!

    ReplyDelete
  29. By the way I got here through Rachel too. I'm not just some random teenage girl who managed to find this on my own.

  30. In reply to Bethany's comment, I dont think just wearing a ponytail justifies that you are letting yourself go, its wearing a ponytail every chance you get, OR the idea of fixing yourself up is by getting up in the morning and putting in a ponytail, rather than cleaning yourself up, and fixing your hair.(at least this is what was my problem!) But I am proud to say, I am ponytail free, and I have loved it, and my husband has loved it!!

  31. Okay, I will join. This is really going to be tough...but I know I will feel better.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I just have to say I DID IT!! It was a bit weird the first few days, since I have Ponytail reflux disease, BUT, after a few days, I lot that craving to put up my hair, and I LOVED IT! And my husband loved it too!! It really had a huge affect on me... ITS GREAT!

  33. I think the very very short haircut is not letting yourself go. You people are insane. It's stylish and fun. What are you all these days, pioneers?

    ReplyDelete
  34. There are many of you out there who do look extremely cute and trendy w/short hair- but a few of us- not so much!
Anonymous person: You are missing the point.
This is about having fun, and finding a few minutes of your day to pamper yourself and maybe even laugh a little. This "ponytail challenge" title is an analogy. The short hair "mom do" is also an analogy.
A lot of women spend so much time taking care of other people, they don't get to take care of themselves.
This challenge has been a fun way to remind most of us that a little pampering- self indulgence if you will- can go a long way in making you feel better about yourself.

  35. I'm a late comer, so I think I'll start both challenges today! My hair is short, but my version of a ponytail is a headband to keep it out of my eyes... so my version will be that I have to use some sort of heated appliance to fix my hair- straightener, curling iron, blow dryer and round brush. Because I definitely do not do that every day! What an awesome challenge- I love the philosophy behind it all!!

  36. You know maybe you are a pioneer -- after all isn't that someone who is adventerous and seeking something better. There should always be pioneers. What could be better than discovering a new happier you -- even if it comes from simple things in life like styled hair, a splash of perfume, and good humor. Keep up the good work in charting a positive course for the rest of us.

  37. Yeah- I am a pioneer..... didn't you see the "ugly stage" photo, complete with pioneer dress & background? ha. ha.
