Leaving Comfort Zone, Part 5
When we are feeling uncomfortable, we tend to hide out.
For me, a good example would be at church. I think that my kids are the loudest & most disruptive. If I actually get my hair curled/done up, then we seem to be late. No matter what kind of morning we have on Sundays, I have an excuse ready to sit on the back row. From the back row, my "comfort zone," I see everyone else in their own usual spots too- their comfort zones. If you don't go to church, I am sure you have your usual comfort zones- the same checkout line at the same side of the grocery store, the same seat at the table, the same couch cushion at Grandma's house. Lets change it up a bit!
Wherever you go this weekend.... whether it be a movie, to church, on a bus, wherever: sit on the front row or as close to the front as you can.
Please note: I just read this to my husband to get his opinion & his EXACT reply was: We ain't sittin' on the front row! (Ain't? Sittin? I promise we are only partially hicks...)
Me: Why not? Does it make you uncomfortable?
Him, rolling his eyes: You can sit by yourself up there. I am not a part of the Ponytail Challenge!
HA! That is what he thinks!

As I read this challenge I thought the same conversation with my husband. LOL! We will see how it goes with not occupying the back row this week.

ReplyDeleteOKay I'm in
ReplyDeleteMove rows? Isn't that against the unwritten rules or something? :) I'm in! But maybe just on the 2nd row so I can trap my kids in!
ReplyDeleteYes, I also have to have a barrier for my girls or they will bolt! Second row it is! Although that's where the super-Mormon family with 8 kids sit so I hope there's room for us!
ReplyDeleteYou do realize that means that we actually have to get to church on time?! Yikes- that will be the hardest part for me... i'm in.
ReplyDeleteI will definitely give it a shot. My husband will have to be talked into it! Isn't it funny how if one person switches pews it throws off everyone else? No one knows what to do or where to go after that!
ReplyDeleteToday I stepped out of my comfort zone by beginning the no treats/toys before the sacrament rule. Can I just say how NAUGHTY my two and three year olds were for those twenty or so minutes!! I think I made everyone around me wish I had just chosen a different spot to sit!
ReplyDeleteCheck, Check, and Check! All five challenges completed!
ReplyDeleteThis worked perfect for me. I had to go to a new church...which I hate...and I did go for the whole time!
ReplyDeleteWe sat in the third row at Church today, though we usually tend to sit in the hard seats in the overflow. With two kids, sitting in front section is harder than it should be.
ReplyDeleteWe sat in the 3rd row today. I find it always harder to get out when I'm up front though - everyone always sits and talks in the isles-arr - I just want OUT and get my wiggly 2 yr old to the nursery!! :) But, we did it!
ReplyDeleteHee hee, I just read this right now. We usually sit on the second row for church but we attended a different ward today. We sat on the front row of the overflow section! And when we went to the movies last night, we sat on the front row of the main section (behind the wheelchairs). Does that count??
ReplyDeleteI have a friend whose husband told her that when they're late they have to sit on the front row. So every few weeks they come in during the opening song or right after the prayer and make their way to the very front. Talk about wanting to be on time!
I saw this website on my friend Calise's blog and loved the idea! I spent two hours at the park in my cute shirt and my heeled sandles! I loved it! Thanks for the push!
ReplyDeletejust for the record, we sat on the 2nd row in church on sunday...gotta love being late! ;) It's always good for MAKING you get out of your comfort zone.
