When it comes to clothes shopping, I will never be my mom! I'm too selfish! I want nice things and she always went without so her kids could have what was cool. I only wish I could be more selfless but I also feel like moms deserve to feel good about themselves, too. I talked to her the other day and mentioned the swimsuit she said she liked from Eddie Bauer was on sale for 89 dollars (yes, on sale!) And she said, "I know, I bought it!" You could have heard my jaw hit the floor! I am still just so happy that she did something extravagant for herself because no one deserves it more!Jecca Lee Ivie Johnsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16883909639129946822noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2220161407890623567.post-31979123432827822672008-09-03T19:15:00.000-06:002008-09-03T19:15:00.000-06:00I've been turning into my mom since I was a teenag...I've been turning into my mom since I was a teenager. And I have no problem with that - I love my mom! Is she stylish, hip, trendy, with-it, or whatever kids are calling it these days? No, and she hasn't been since college. But she's wonderful. And I was never "cool" in the clothing department anyway. So it doesn't bother me all that much that I don't know what brands are "in" or not. I only ever shop at thrift stores and Wal-Mart (sorry!) anyway.Stephaniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12591387295768935118noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2220161407890623567.post-56304669473850287492008-09-03T14:32:00.000-06:002008-09-03T14:32:00.000-06:00Ooooo - Rachel's response totally hit home for me!...Ooooo - Rachel's response totally hit home for me! I've got a 4 year old that NEVER STOPS TALKING and I do tend to tune him out way too often. All his sweet little 4 yr. old desires and thoughts just wasted on me as I make mental grocery lists and stuff like that. So sad! I am changing my ways this instant.

As for becoming my mom, I absolutely refuse to let that happen. However, I have found recently that wear my glasses for days at a time instead of putting in my contacts - I used to think my mom was such a nerd when she would do that! In my defense, I think my glasses are pretty cool. But still...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2220161407890623567.post-5208783029269336782008-09-03T12:41:00.000-06:002008-09-03T12:41:00.000-06:00I love my mom! One thing I hated her saying was 'save your money' when we wanted things. She didn't go buy us anything we wanted and that taught us a lot! I find myself saying that to my 6 year old and it works!Melaniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01911162053667898757noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2220161407890623567.post-34525016108573732572008-09-03T12:23:00.000-06:002008-09-03T12:23:00.000-06:00Oh there are sooo many things that I don't do, but...Oh there are sooo many things that I don't do, but ohhh so many that I do. It always drove me NUTS that my mom would do that--I know she missed most of what we told her and I never felt important. But I find myself doing that sometimes now--especially when the stories are made up and drawn out...but I have really been trying lately to LISTEN and hear each word and give attention to that.Rachel Hollowayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02906959500907191201noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2220161407890623567.post-88980946861499638582008-09-03T08:21:00.000-06:002008-09-03T08:21:00.000-06:00The answer to that is a resounding NO. I sit here typing, in my old jeans (OLD jeans), wearing a ponytail, I've somehow acquired my mother's voice whenever I reprimand my kids, I never go shopping for myself (I often buy things for myself in haste -- things on "sale" of course -- while clothes shopping with my kids). Needless to say, I am loving your blog! =) It's nice to find I'm not the only one in blogland who is stuck in a mommy-rut! =)Cape Cod Washashorehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07267024473330532083noreply@blogger.com
